On Friday (November 7), Henry Rollins clarified that his recent four-song project with Ian MacKaye does not feature either musician playing on the tracks. Instead, the two hardcore legends collaborated solely on mixing an unearthed 1979 demo from an unnamed punk band at Inner Ear Studios. “I am not on the tape. Ian is not on the tape. Neither of us are on the tape,” Rollins explained, while adding, “What we were working on was a demo, recorded in 1979, by a legendary Punk band that recently came into my possession.” Rollins says that after acquiring the tape, having it restored and transferred, he and MacKaye focused on mixing the eight-track recording. They are preparing the demo for an upcoming release as a four-song 12-inch vinyl via In The Red Records. While fans get over their disappointment that Rollins and MacKaye didn’t record new music together, they still await the reveal of the mysterious punk band behind these recently discovered recordings.
